Sunrise at Bournda National Park. Dramatic scenery awaits at this beautiful park, with grand vistas of ocean, forests, long sandy beaches, lakes and waterways.

Exploring the Park

Bournda Lagoon, not far from the ocean has places to swim for the kids while you fish. If you want picturesque coastal views, explore the Kangarutha walking track.

At Turingal Head you can also swim and fish, there is a picnic area. At the Wallagoot Lake picnic area, you can sail or paddle ski on the glassy waters with a wide variety of birdlife in the skies and trees.

Whales, Dolphins and Penguins

You can spot dolphins and penguins on the coast, and whales during their season, usually June, July and August. Even better is to watch them return with their calves to their feeding grounds in the Antartic past the Sapphire Coast, from September to November.

Along the Coast

An important part of the eco-system are the heathlands, coastal scrub and wind swept trees of Bournda National Park facing the ocean. The heathlands and wildly twisted trees back many of the beaches of this part of the NSW coast, extending all the way to Victoria forming an important part of the eco-system.

You will find numerous marked trails throughout the park, there is an abundance of wildlife, birdlife and native flora to see.

Hobart Beach

At Hobart Beach in Bournda National Park there is camping available near Wallagoot Lake. Canoeing, fishing and swimming are popular activities here as are swimming, picnicking and bushwalking.

Merimbula Tourist Information

Enquire at the Merimbula Visitors Information Centre about the many national parks, activities, things to do, camp sites and picnic areas, lakes, unique flora and fauna on the Sapphire Coast. Located at Beach St, Merimbula NSW 2548 Phone +061 2 6495 1129.

Merimbula and Pambula Beach have an excellent range of accommodation to suit almost any budget. Ocean side resorts set in stunning locations, hotels, motels, caravan parks, serviced apartments, seaside and beach accommodation, pub stays, homesteads and holiday lettings are all available here and throughout the Sapphire Coast. During School Holidays and peak times of the year it is strongly recommended to book ahead.
