Kangaroo Island

Of the more than eight thousand islands off the coast of Australia, Kangaroo Island the the third biggest, with only Tasmania and Melville Island in the Northern Territory being larger.

The island covers 4,416 square kilometres and is home to a huge variety of wildlife, stunning coastal scenery, Flinders Chase National Park and more than 20 parks and reserves.

Getting to Kangaroo Island

The trip from Adelaide to Cape Jervis is 106km, from there, you can take the ferry to Penneshaw on the island. There are also tours operating from the city, including for the Night Fairy Penguin Procession. Bring a coat, sunscreen and a hat, the weather on the island is very variable, going from sunny to wet and windy and back in the course of a few hours. Self drive tours are possible, you can even get a guided audio tour of the island at one of the tourist information centres.
