Whales can also be spotted from the beachfront, as they pass by to go to their favourite breeding grounds further north, during late autumn to spring. There are numerous waterfalls in the surrounds of Lorne. Erskine Falls is about 10kms from Lorne. There are others, including Henderson, Sheoak and Cumberland Falls complete with hiking trails of varying difficulty. Erskine Falls can be reached with an easy walk, about 15 minutes.

During the New Year period, you can enjoy the Falls Festival, a music festival. Also, just after New Years, there is the ‘Pier to Pub’ swim event and the Lorne Anaconda Adventure Race held in December. In May, there is the Great Ocean Road Marathon, run from Lorne to Apollo Bay complete with fantastic scenery!
