Dog on the Tuckerbox - Sydney to Melbourne Route

Inspiring song, festivals and lore, the Dog on the Tuckerbox has been a descriptor of the condition of life in Australia for early settlers. Hard work and misfortune were very much a part of life then, yet a sense of humour prevailed.

The monument is located at Snake Gully, some eight kilometres from the town of Gundagai on the Hume Highway, the classic route from Sydney to Melbourne, not far from the border of NSW.

There is an annual event celebrating the moment the dog sat on the Tuckerbox held in November, I’ll leave you to discover why.

I was never told, people always assumed I knew, so why should I tell you? Find out more at the Dog on the Tuckerbox site.
