Australia War Memorial Museum Canberra

Canberra Map.

The Australian War Memorial Museum is well worth visiting for a number of reasons. Dedicated to those Australians that died in the conflicts that the country was involved in, it is both a fitting memorial building and one of the most interesting museums in the country.

Within the Memorial Museum are galleries with displays, stories, artefacts and equipment from the conflicts that Australia fought in. This was designed from the beginning by Charles Bean, as he felt it was important for those at home to understand the experiences of those on the war front as well as the home front, even prisoners of war.

At the center of the memorial complex is the Hall of Memory, with a beautifully designed dome decorated with mosaics. Much of it was built and contributed by war widows.

There are 90 minute guided tours available.
