Managed by the Department of Health, the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) 65 hectare AIS precinct is dedicated to the promotion of sport at all levels, for the young to the old. Many of the best athletes are trained here through the year, including Australia’s world, Olympic and Paralympic champions.
Being the national centre for sports in Australia, you can see the best that the country has to offer. Tours are held here, often by previous Olympic winners and other famous athletes.
The centre is also dedicated to research, including diet, technology and everything related to fitness.
With more than 200k visitors every year, you will want to go on the AIS tour. On the tour is the Sportex, with exhibits and displays of the sports in Australia.
There is plenty of parking available here, and the AIS is located only a few kilometres from the centre of Canberra. Tours are held at 10am, 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm daily with the exception of most public holidays.
