St Marys Cathedral was a Sydney landmark well before its completion, 100 years after the death of the architect. This is the third church on the site, building began with the laying of the foundation stone in 1868.
The building’s design is in the traditional English shape of a cruciform with beautiful stained glass windows You can view numerous artworks preserved in the church.
There is a lot of Sydney history in this area of the city. Historic buildings near the cathredal include the Sydney Rum Hospital, Hyde Park Barracks and what was originally a courthouse, St. James Church.
