The Grampians National Park, covering some 500,000 acres, is the third largest National Park in Victoria. Grampians Map.

With sandstone ridges rising over 3,000 feet, there are sheer cliffs, waterfalls, spectacular scenery and lots of native fauna to see. A Major Mitchell, reminded of the similar mountain ranges in Scotland named them the Grampians.

With some 2/3 of the native aboriginal art sites located within the park, it is well worth exploring. Some of the hiking within the park is only for the strong of heart, taking more than one day and night, however, there are many rewarding short walks. There are also numerous places to camp.

Halls Gap

The many roads covering the ranges allow good access throughout the Grampians. Halls gap provides an excellent base for exploring the park and is fully serviced.

On the tip of Lake Bellfield, Halls Gap is a little village with a tourist information centre and nearby wildlife park.

Lake Bellfield

At the foot of the Grampians mountain ranges, 5km south of Halls Gap, there is great sailing and fishing, and during the summer, good swimming and picnic areas.

Wineries

There are over 20 wineries in the area.

In the North West of the Grampians, you can tour the Little Desert National Park and the Big Desert wilderness. The flora displays and wildlife alone are well worth the visit.

Restaurants and Cafes

Cafe’s and restaurants offer fresh Australian as well as international fare, made from local produce.

How to Get Here

The Grampians region is about 3 hours drive from Melbourne. From Melbourne, follow the Western Highway west through the cities of Ballarat and Ararat.
