Sydney on a bright sunny day as seen from the Harbour
Whether your a visitor to Australia or a Sydneysider returning home, Sydney Airport has made arrivals and departures easier.
At the arrival terminal you have a last chance for duty free shopping before customs.
An airport shuttle service can get you from the Domestic Terminal to the International. Sydney Airport is approximately 15km from the City Center.
There is nearby airport accommodation for those needing a rest, but the city centre is not far away, and easily accessed with public transport including the express train service, hotel shuttle services, limousines, taxis and car rentals with plenty of parking available. Do give yourself time, though, for the security checks before your next departure.
You can find trolleys upon your arrival in the Customs area that are available for use for free, while for departures, trolleys are available in the carpark and departure level for a small fee.
For purchases made in Australia and above $300 dollars, you are entitled to a refund of any Goods and Services Tax. There is paperwork to fill out and you will have to present the goods for inspection, however the refund in the form of a cheque can be cashed at any of the foreign exchange booths at the Airport. Can be quite handy for those late purchase gifts.
At the Arrivals level you can find the Tourism New South Wales Information Desk. They are on hand to help visitors with information or special inquiries you may have including transport, accommodation bookings, airport facilities and arriving flight details.
There are plenty of things to do for kids, including dress up, crafts, electronic and educational games.
If you have time on your hands, you will find ample opportunities to shop for duty free shopping and finding gifts, Australian wines and all kinds of things Australiana. There is an array of speciality shops, including brand names, art galleries, book and magazine shops to browse. There is duty free shopping available upon your leaving the plane at the airport as well.
Duty free shopping is also available at the arrivals terminal after your plane lands, for those who did not want to carry extra items aboard.
