South Bruny Island National Park

Map showing South Bruny Island National Park (south of Hobart) and the South East Coast of Tasmania: Tasmania Australia Map.

This park on the island of South Bruny was specifically chosen for its natural coastal scenery, while it protects the diverse sea-birdlife and the rainforest as well as flora found only in Tasmania.

On this part of the island, beautiful long sandy beaches and high cliffs mark the coastline, backed by coastal heathlands. The waters are pristine, there are grand views of the coast and other islands in the distance.

Things to Do

Because of the far south location of the island, it is important to check the weather before participating in any activities. See the weather for today with forecasts: Weather for Hobart and Surrounds.

There are excellent walks in the park, from short and easily accessible, to those requiring a certain level of fitness and agility for an all day hike on the Labillardiere Peninsula, recommended for its stunning views of the coast.

Birdwatching is popular here, there is an abundant amount of birds to be seen. With more than 120 known species on the island, many make their home here.

Surfing is popular at Cloudy Bay, with good beachbreak waves. The surf can get quite big and spectacular on the right days. Check out the Cloudy Bay Surf Report.

There are cruises available from Hobart. Ferries leave from Kettering to Bruny Island every day.
