Queens Square in Sydney was dedicated to Queen Victoria.
Buildings located near here that are now Heritage Listed and still extant include the Hyde Park Barracks, the Sydney Mint (previously Sydney’s first hospital) and St. James Church, originally designed by Francis Greenway.
The cable car ‘Ocean Street’ tram line ran all the way from the city centre to Watson’s Bay, along South Head Road.
Trams were much a feature in Sydney during their time, the network here was one of the largest in the world. Starting with a single line horse drawn carriage in 1866, it grew with massive investment to a peak of 405 million passenger journeys in 1945.
