Leura NSW

Leura is near the center of the Map: Blue Mountains Map.

The small town of Leura in the Blue Mountains has managed to maintain much of its architectural historical look and is close to a number of lookouts over the Jamison Valley. A number of the homes have retained their English style gardens, popular in the 1800s which add to the ambience of this place.

Walks

From here, you can access a number of walks that explore not only the town, but those with excellent views of the mountains, escarpments, ridges and valleys. They are of varying difficulty, from the easy to long.

At Sublime Point, you can gain dramatic and sweeping views of the Jamison Valley below. On the Leura Cascades walk (about 1km) there is a historic bridge, the cascading waterfall and vertical sandstone cliffs.

The Leura Cascades Fern Bower walk takes you down steps into the upper reaches of the valley, with its rainforest ferns and in a circuit below the cliffs and ridges.

Attractions

The mountains themselves are an attraction, of course, as is the NSW Toy and Railway Museum. Complete with some very awesome world-class displays of classic toys and trains, it also has classic toy collections, including Barbie, Popeye, Alice in Wonderland and others.

The museum is housed in an historic early 20th century mansion filled with interactive displays and picturesque scenes, set in set in a lush 12 acre award winning garden. The gardens also have grand views of Jamieson Valley.
