Twelve Apostles Australia

Along the Great Ocean Road on the south coast of Australia there are the Twelve Apostles. In the Port Campbell National Park, these limestone towers are what remain as the weathered south coast is pushed further back by the Southern Ocean. See Map Great Ocean Rd Map shows location of places along the Great Ocean Road.

Other natural wonders include the Loch Ard Gorge and the Otway National Park, preserving the south coast rainforest that has been here since ancient times.

Loch Ard Gorge

Loch Ard Gorge is a natural arch of the remaining Australian land mass that has been eaten away by the winds and forces of the Southern Ocean. Not far from the Twelve Apostles at the Port Campbell National Park, it was once the location of a shipwreck. The Loch Ard, a clipper that had sailed all the way from England, when, nearing the end of its journey on its way to Melbourne, it struck rocks at Mutton Bird Island. Only two survived this long journey with its tragic end, close to its destination.

Otway Ranges National Park has rare plants and trees, including a myrtle beech tree dated to be more than 400 years old. See more about the places to visit along the Great Ocean Road Great Ocean Road Places

Surf Beaches on the Great Ocean Road

Two of the well known beaches here include Bells Beach, which holds annual surf contests, popular with the curious and the dedicated. At Easter, thousands of visitors come to spectate while world class surfers compete at the Bells Beach Surf Classic.
