Houseboats and Cruises on the Murray

Murraylands Region on the Map: South East South Australia Map.

Exploring the Murraylands

The largest river in Australia is the Murray. What better way to explore it than a houseboat, which you can hire at key locations along the main waterway.

There are, of course, other ways to explore this fertile region as the river winds its way down to the ocean. There is trail biking, canoes, car and bus tours, but if you have the time, hire a houseboat and explore your way down.

The river flows along the north of Victoria, where it crosses into South Australia at Customs House. Meandering west, it passes Renmark, Berri, Loxton and Waikerie.

Entering the Murraylands at Cadell, it passes Morgan, Blanchetown, Swan Reach, Mannum and Murray Bridge. Tailem End is the last major town before the river flows into beautiful Lake Alexandria and the Southern Ocean.

Cruises

There are also numerous cruises available, if your limited for time. Using historical steamboat paddlewheelers, these romantic boats meander their way up and down the river as you learn about the history and region surrounding the river.

Restaurants and Eateries

You can sample great local fare and wines at restaurants in all the major towns along the way. If your driving, the Barossa Valley is a glorious SA wine growing region.

You can also take a cruise to the Barossa from Mannum. An idyllic way to sample the many wine varieties on offer.
