The Sydney Opera House is situated at Bennelong Point, named after Bennelong, an Aboriginal. Originally captured on Governor Phillips orders, to help the First Fleet Colonials learn the language and customs of the locals. See more on The Rocks, Circular Quay and The Sydney Opera House.
Bennelong later had a house built for him on the site where the Opera House now stands. Later a fort was built on the site, to protect Sydney from possible incursions from the Russians, French or whoever else might threaten the colony.

The area surrounding Sydney Cove, from where the settlement later adopted its name, dropping the name Cove, is where much of early Australian History happened. Now named Circular Quay, it is a major terminus for Sydney trains, buses, ferries and taxis.
