The Central Coast of New South Wales has much to offer, natural beauty, stunning national parks, lakes and great beaches. Terrigal, operating at a much more relaxed pace than nearby Sydney, offers a great getaway for visitors wanting to see more of this state.
Families wanting to visit this region will find plenty of activities for the kids as well. Nearby are popular attractions like the Australian Reptile Park and national parks such as Bouddi and the Brisbane Waters NP.
Between between June and November whales pass on their migratory journeys from their feeding grounds in the Antartic to their breeding grounds in northern Australia and vice-versa.
Other popular activities here include swiming, surfing (you can take lessons here) and fishing. Golf is another popular sport.
There town itself has a beautiful beach, with the Skillion cliff face. It extends for some four kilometres of sandy beach.
There are plenty of other gorgeous beaches within easy reach of Terrigal. Sand, sun and surf as well as more peaceful beaches for the smaller children.
Both Putty Beach on the north end of Killcare Beach and Little Beach, in northern section of Bouddi, has a picnic area with appropriate facilities.
The park, divided in north and south sections, also has two islands in Tuggerah Lake. In the northern section, there is a remnant rainforest and a Red Gum forest on the lake side. There are surf beaches on the ocean coastal side. Walking trails take you to various parts.
The Crackneck Lookout walk is good place to spot whales during their season with brilliant views of the coast and ocean. The Lillypilly walk takes you to the wetlands along the Tuggerah Lake edge. The Coast Walking Track also gives good views of passing whales, but is of medium difficulty while the others here are rated as easy.
There are guided tours available, which add a whole new dimension to exploring this beautiful national park. Phone +061 2 4320 4205 for more information.
The drive from Sydney is normally quick. Take the F3 expressway from North Sydney to the turn-off for Gosford, then on to the Pacific Highway (M1). In Gosford go south on the Mann St - Pacific Hwy, then the Central Coast Hwy to Terrigal Drive.
