Fleurieu Peninsula - Great Wines

Fleurieu Peninsula, to the south east of Adelaide in South Australia, is a favourite with Australians.

Enjoyable with its many wineries, beautiful rugged coastline and pounding surf on the western side. With plenty of beaches on the calmer eastern Gulf St Vincent to relax on, its easy to see why.

McLaren Vale Wine Region

Victor Harbor is an enjoyable popular seaside town and there are plenty of other historic townships to explore, while McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek offer great wine tasting opportunities.

There are some 50 wineries around McLaren Vale and the Hardy’s Tintara winery complex, amongst others, is well worth a visit.

Whale Watching

Victor Harbor has Whale Watching in the winter months and the SA Whale Centre. Those inspired by nature should be sure to see Deep Creek and the Newland Head Conservation Parks.

On the northern part of the peninsula there are the Kyeema and Cox’s Scrub Conservation Parks. Deep Creek has forests and kangaroos as well as beautiful ocean and coastal views.

There is plenty of native fauna about, including kangaroos. With some twenty National Parks nearby, the region is also a haven for birds and flora.

You can drive to the top of Mt. Magnificent, near Willunga, for great views and wildlife.

Tours

A wine tasting tour to McLaren Vale on the Fleurieu Peninsula is an enjoyable to spend the day for many. There are more than 75 cellar door wineries, many of them with gourmet restaurants to explore.

There are cruises and scenic flights at Goolwa, and 3-4 day tours as well as an excellent 1 day aboriginal cultural tour from Adelaide. Or take a penguin tour or a dolphin cruise from Victor Harbor.

Accommodation

Fleurieu Peninsula has self contained romantic retreats, hotels, motels, villas, comfortable beach huts. There is also the McCracken Resort at Victor Harbor for those so inclined.

Wining and Dining

The restaurants in McLaren Vale has some great wining and dining experiences as well as Victor Harbor. Restaurants on the peninsula cater for many tastes and of course there are those with very fresh seafood selections.

Getting to the Fleurieu

Just a thirty minute drive to the south of Adelaide. Fleurieu Peninsula is situated west of the Gulf St Vincent with the Southern Ocean to the Southeast. Driving from Adelaide, you can go via the Southern Expressway through the wine region of McLaren Vale.
