Spectacular sheer cliffs rising out of the ocean with sandy beaches tucked away amongst them makes for a wonderful coastline to explore as well as offering opportunities for surfing, swimming, diving and fishing.

Kadina is the largest town in the region and has some wonderful museums that tell the many stories from this area.

Yorke Peninsula was originally settled by wheat and sheep farmers, then when copper was found, boomed in the 1860’s till the 1920’s when it returned to farming. It is now a rich barley and wheat farmland area as well as a coastal holiday area.


The Yorke Peninsula is also known for its copper and its boom and bust times. There are many well preserved towns that reflect this, Moonta has the extensive Moonta Mines Heritage Area complete with a railway and is well worth a visit.

Spend a day on a sheep farm, explore the mines dressed as a miner, do a camel trek at Corny Point. Take a boat cruise, even take a scenic flight, go diving at one of the many shipwrecks left by the rocky southern coast. Yorke Peninsula has a host of tour experiences and even dolphin cruises available.

For the family, check out the Seahorse Farm at Port Lincoln and the Whyella Maritime Museum at, ummm, Whyella. Why not?

Fishing and Diving

There is excellent fishing and diving available. There are jetties at most of the small villages lining the coast. At Edithburgh you can fish for garfish, snook and tommy ruff.

There are plenty of diving opportunities found on the peninsula, the Clan Ranald wreck near Edithburgh is one of the most popular. At Wardang Island, there are a further eight wrecks to explore.

At various places you will find local charter boats, offering great boat fishing.


There are many options available such as hotels, motels, caravan parks, and bed and breakfast places to stay to suit any budget. There are some very luxurious coastline holiday villas that offer spectacular views and luxury.


Coffin Bay is famous for its delicious seafood. The various towns and villages have their share of eateries, offering the freshest of local produce and seafare.
