There is a free outdoor gym, walking tracks and there are beginning surf lessons available. Fishing is also allowed in certain areas.
Located at the north end of the beach, the bright blue and white building serves as the Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club. Swim only between the red and yellow flags. If there are no flags, the beach is not being patrolled at that time.
On particular days the surf can get big, with cross-currents and rips. Only strong swimmers should venture out, but between the flags. Board riders, boogie board riders, canoes can usually find a good spot to take advantage of the larger surf waves.
