The Monaro Highway (B23) takes one from Canberra to the South Coast of Victoria along the Cann River, a 285 kilometre journey. On the east side of the Great Australian Divide, the third longest mountain range in the world, the road takes you through deep forests, fertile plains, mountains, historical villages and towns.
In Victoria, it ends at the town of Cann River in East Gippsland. Nestled between the Lind National Park and Alfred National Park, Cann River is a rest stop, to the east are the waterways and national parks of the Gippsland, while to the west is the city of Melbourne.
To the North East from Cann River, Croajingolong National Park, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve (World Heritage Site) has lakes, waterways, islands, beaches, surrounding green forests and hinterlands to explore including Thurra River, Tamboon Inlet and Wingan Inlet.
An interesting alternative if heading from Melbourne in Victoria to Sydney in New South Wales, is to head east at Cooma via the Snowy Mountains Highway to the Sapphire Coast, then north through the Eurobodalla and Shoalhaven regions. Only time will limit the many enjoyable places you will find along the way.

Namadgi National Park covers half of the Australian Capital Territory. There are numerous Aboriginal artefacts here, forests cover the many valleys and mountains found in the park. Popular with bushwalkers, there are also limited camping facilities available.
