Deniliquin and Surrounds, NSW

See map of New South Wales South West NSW.

Set on the Edward River on the junction of the Riverina and Cobb Highways is the country town of Deniliquin. With a varied and interesting history, surrounded by natural places to visit including Tuppal National Park and Gulpa NP, you will find plenty of things to do while here.

The town has deep farming roots and is the commercial support centre for the agricultural community in the surrounds, rice is one the main crops produced here. Beef and wool, particularly prized Merino wool, are also important here.

Nicknamed ’Deni’ by the locals, it is home to the Deniliquin Ute Muster Festival and holder of the world record for the most utility trucks in one place at one time.

Deni also holds the record for the most wearers of blue singlets gathered in one place, also held during the Ute Muster Festival. Besides holding these important records, they obviously also have a great sense of Aussie humour. Join in the fun!

The Deniliquin area is the where the Aboriginal Barapa Baraba people had lived for many thousands of years. Many of their descendants still do. You can find out much more about their story at the Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre, located at 125 End St. They also have displays of artefacts and you can book indigenous tours of Island Sanctuary, Murray Valley Regional Park and Werai Reserve Home.
